Haven Boatworks, located in Port Townsend, Washington, is a full service boatyard specializing in the restoration and repair of wooden boats. The company evolved from Baird Boat Company and continues today in the same location.
Our facilities include a fully equipped wood shop, an 80' climate controlled boat shop, and space outside for several boats up to 300 tons.
Stephen Gale, Owner/Manager. Stephen spent 3 years cruising the Atlantic and Caribbean before coming to Port Townsend to attend the Northwest School for Wooden Boat Building, and eventually becoming an instructor there. Stephen then worked for Ernie Baird at Baird Boat Company for 8 years before becoming Owner/Manager of Haven Boatworks.
Julia Maynard, Owner/Manager. Julia comes to Haven Boatworks with over 30 years of experience in the marine trades, spanning from Mystic Seaport, to California, to Port Townsend. She is renowned for her skills as a finisher, as well as her experience gained from building a boat with her husband, George, and sailing Zulu across the South Pacific to Australia.
Haven Boatworks is proud of it's commitment to its customers. We believe that good communication with our customers is essential in any project, as well as being honest about balancing the needs of our customers with the needs of the vessel. Our weekly billing cycle ensures that our customers are kept fully appraised of the status of their project. We have developed many enduring relationships with our vessel owners due to the quality of our work and our honesty and integrity.
Our team consists of highly skilled professionals experienced in shipbuilding and shipwright work, joinery repair and construction, traditional paint and varnish, mechanical and systems, and metalwork. Locally renowned cabinet maker and sailer, Josh Greene (http://www.greenewooddesign.com), has recently joined us to provide exceptional interior design and joinery for our customers.
Haven Boatworks provides a variety of services for our customer’s needs. We work on both commercial and pleasure craft, from small runabouts to the largest vessel that can be hauled by the Port of Port Townsend’s 300-ton Travelift. Our jobs range from simple bottom maintenance and paint to complete restoration and new construction.
Our core team consists of highly skilled professionals experienced in shipbuilding and shipwright work, joinery repair and construction, and traditional paint and varnish. In addition, we have ongoing relationships with skilled craftspeople for specialized work including electrical, mechanical, and metalwork.
Located in the Port of Port Townsend heavy-haulout yard, Haven Boatworks accommodates a number of vessels with both indoor and outdoor facilities. Our boat shop can fit one to three vessels for a total length of 80 feet. With a heated slab, the shop provides a year-round work space. Also on site is a fully equipped wood shop and space outside for several boats at a time.
